From: Tim Mcclung
            Chief Science Plans Branch
            Office of Science And Technology

Subject: Amended: Addition of HIRESW Products to NOAAPORT:
            Postponed Until Further Notice.

Amended to delay the implementation date until further notice
due to the need to troubleshoot network issues detected
following the NOAAPORT/ Satellite Broadcast Network (SBN)
expansion.

Sometime after August 16, 2011, the National Centers for
Environmental Prediction (NCEP) will begin disseminating output
from the High-Resolution Window Forecast System (HIRESW) on
NOAAPORT and SBN.

HIRESW includes runs of the Weather Research and Forecast (WRF)
version 3.2 of the Advanced Research WRF (ARW) and the
Nonhydrostatic Mesoscale Model (NMM). These runs are made over
6 domains covering the contiguous United States, Alaska, Hawaii,
Puerto Rico and Guam. The HIRESW generates gridded output in
GRIB2 format for 5km grids for each domain.

Below is the run schedule and the associated domains:

0000 UTC: Eastern US, Hawaii and Guam
0600 UTC: Western US and Puerto Rico
1200 UTC: Eastern US, Hawaii and Guam
1800 UTC: Alaska and Puerto Rico

These HIRESW runs are cancelled on the NCEP operational
supercomputer when hurricane models are running during the
tropical season.

The HIRESW provides detailed forecasts of low-level temperatures
and winds, and increased structure in precipitation forecasts
due to a lack of parameterized convection. More information
regarding the HIRESW and associated products can be found at:

http://www.emc.ncep.noaa.gov/mmb/mmbpll/nestpage_4km

The WMO headers for these HIRESW GRIB2 products are L*x*** KWBS
or M*x*** KWBS where x =

A for Eastern US
B for Western US
C for Alaska
D for Hawaii
E for Puerto Rico
F for Guam

A complete explanation of the WMO headers for all of the
products is available at:

www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/changes/hiresw_wmo_headers.shtml

The HIRESW output is currently available on the NCEP server at:

www.ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/data/nccf/com/hiresw/prod/
and
ftp://ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/data/nccf/com/hiresw/prod/

in directories hiresw.YYYYMMDD, where YYYYMMDD is the current
year, month and day.

The model data for the Guam and Puerto Rico domains will be
added to NOAAPORT sometime after August 16; however, the data
will not be displayable in the Advanced Weather Interactive
Processing System (AWIPS) until future modifications are made.
