WITH THE GOES-11 TO GOES-15 TRANSITION, THE FOLLOWING CHANGES WILL OCCUR: . 1. 12UM CHANNEL DISCONTINUED 2. 13.3UM CHANNEL ADDED, ON SBN/NOAAPORT INITIALLY AT 8KM RESOLUTION 3. WATER VAPOR CHANNEL - RESOLUTION CHANGES TO 4KM, BROADER CHANNEL, CENTRAL WAVELENGTH MOVES TO 6.5UM 4. VISIBLE CHANNEL - NARROWER CHANNEL, CENTRAL WAVELENGTH MOVES TO 0.63UM . THESE CHANGES TO THE NOAAPORT/SBN GOES WEST IMAGERY STREAM WILL AFFECT AWIPS AND EXTERNAL USERS. SBN/NOAAPORT DATA STREAM CHANGES . 1. ON THE GOES SBN CHANNEL. . . - TIGW03 KNES WMO HEADER DISCONTINUED - 12UM GOES WEST CONUS SECTOR - TIGW06 KNES WMO HEADER ADDED - 13.3UM GOES WEST CONUS SECTOR . 2. ON THE NOAAPORT/4TH/OCONUS/NOPT SBN CHANNEL. . . - TIGA03 KNES WMO HEADER DISCONTINUED - 12UM GOES WEST ALASKA REGIONAL SECTOR - TIGH03 KNES WMO HEADER DISCONTINUED - 12UM GOES WEST HAWAII REGIONAL SECTOR - TIGA06 KNES WMO HEADER ADDED - 13.3UM GOES WEST ALASKA REGIONAL SECTOR - TIGH06 KNES WMO HEADER ADDED - 13.3UM GOES WEST HAWAII REGIONAL SECTOR . 3. ON THE NWSTG/NMC CHANNEL . . . - LEVEL TWO GOES SATELLITE PRODUCTS, SUCH AS GOES SOUNDINGS AND GOES HIGH DENSITY WINDS, WILL BE BASED ON THE NEW GOES WEST SATELLITE, GOES-15. . AWIPS USERS SHOULD NOTE THE FOLLOWING. . . NWS/AWIPS SITES THAT USE GOES WEST AS THE PRIMARY GOES SATELLITE WILL BE AFFECTED. THIS INCLUDES MOST IF NOT ALL SITES IN THE PACIFIC, ALASKA, AND WESTERN REGIONS. IN ADDITION, SITES IN THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN REGIONS THAT USE GOES WEST AS THEIR PRIMARY GOES SATELLITE WILL BE AFFECTED. . THE AWIPS SITE SUPPORT TEAM HAS PLACED UPDATED VERSIONS OF TWO AWIPS NATIONAL DATASETS NEEDED TO MODIFY AWIPS FIELD SITE CONFIGURATIONS TO HANDLE THE NEW GOES WEST DATA STREAM. THE TWO FILES ARE THE GOESIMAGERINFO.TXT FILE AND THE SATSPECIFICINFO.TXT FILE. . THE FOLLOWING STEPS SHOULD BE TAKEN BY AWIPS FIELD SITE STAFF ON TUESDAY DECEMBER 6, ON AWIPS-I MACHINES ONLY: 1. RELOCALIZE DX3 AND DX4 WITH -TABLES OPTION 2. WHEN DX LOCALIZATIONS HAVE COMPLETED, RESTART INGEST ON DX3 3. RELOCALIZE ONE OR TWO LX WORKSTATIONS WITH -TABLES OPTION 4. WHEN LX LOCALIZATIONS HAVE COMPLETED, RESTART D-2D 5. CONFIRM THAT D-2D SATELLITE MENU INCLUDES 13UM AND GOES M-Q ENTRIES . THESE STEPS SHOULD BE TAKEN AT APPROXIMATELY 1600 UTC ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2011. IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO PERFORM THESE STEPS AT EXACTLY 1600 UTC, ALTHOUGH PROPER AWIPS DECODE AND DISPLAY OF THE NEW 13.3UM CHANNEL DEPENDS UPON COMPLETION OF THESE STEPS. AFTER IT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED THAT THE NEW GOES WEST STREAM IS CORRECTLY HANDLED, STEPS 3-5, ABOVE, SHOULD BE REPEATED FOR THE REMAINING LX WORKSTATIONS. NWS STAFF AT AWIPS-I SITES THAT HAVE QUESTIONS OR ENCOUNTER PROBLEMS WITH THE STEPS ABOVE SHOULD CONTACT THE NCF. . NWS STAFF AT AWIPS-II SITES THAT NEED ASSISTANCE SHOULD ALSO CALL THE NCF. ALTHOUGH THE GOES-15 IMAGER PROVIDES 13.3UM DATA AT APPROXIMATELY 4KM RESOLUTION, THE SBN/NOAAPORT FEED WILL INITIALLY CARRY 13.3UM DATA AT APPROXIMATELY 8KM RESOLUTION.
