Subject: Replacement of Navys NOGAPS with NAVGEM:
Effective February 27, 2013
Effective Wednesday, February 27, 2013, the Fleet Numerical
Meteorology and Oceanography Center (FNMOC) will replace its Navy
Operational Global Atmospheric Prediction System (NOGAPS) with
the Navy Global Environmental Model (NAVGEM). After this change
NOGAPS output will no longer be available on the NCEP FTP server;
it will be replaced with NAVGEM output. Note: This is a Navy-
driven change; NWS cannot give the typical advanced notice.
NOGAPS data is currently available at:

NAVGEM data will be available at:
ftp://ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/data/nccf/com/fnmoc/prod/navgem.YYYYM

Where YYYYMMDD is the Year, Month, Day string.
The filename structure is changing.
From:
nogaps_YYYYMMDDCCfHHH
To:
navgem_YYYYMMDDCCfHHH
Where YYYYMMDDCC is the Year, Month, Day, Cycle string and HHH is
the forecast hour.
Finally, the Model Number and Process ID of the model in the GRIB
encoding is changing from 58 to 18.
