-------- Original Message -------- 680 NOUS41 KWBC 041940 PNSWSH Public Information Statement, Comment Request National Weather Service Headquarters Washington, DC 240 PM EST Mon Mar 4 2013 To: Subscribers: -Family of Services -NOAA Weather Wire Service -Emergency Managers Weather Information Network -NOAAPORT Other NWS Partners, Users and Employees From: John Derber, Acting Chief Global Climate and Weather Modeling Branch NCEP/Environmental Modeling CenterSubject: Soliciting Public Comments through April 19, 2013,
on the Removal of NCEPs Legacy Climate Diagnostic Center Products. The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) is proposing to stop producing the legacy Climate Diagnostic Center (CDC) ensemble-based precipitation and surface temperature grids and disseminating them via the NCEP server. These products are not disseminated via NOAAPORT. NWS is seeking comments on this proposed change through April 19, 2013. NCEP runs a system developed by the CDC that uses an early global atmospheric version of the Climate Data Analysis System (CDAS) with a resolution of T62 and 28 model layers. This is followed by a 15 member (control with 7 pairs) ensemble forecast, run at the 00Z cycle only. Forecasts for precipitation and 995mb temperature out to 360 hours are posted on the NCEP server at: http://www.ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/data/nccf/com/cdc/prod/ or ftp://ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/data/nccf/com/cdc/prod/These products have become obsolete and have been replaced by
the current operational output from the CDAS and Global Ensemble Forecast System (GEFS). More details about the products available from these systems is available at: http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/products/ NWS will evaluate all comments to determine whether to proceed with this change. If approved, NWS will issue a Technical Implementation Notice giving 30 days notice of the implementation date.Send comments on this proposal to: John Derber
