Diagnostic Center Products: Effective July 2013 Effective no later than Tuesday, July 16, 2013, the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) will stop producing legacy Climate Diagnostic Center (CDC) ensemble-based precipitation and surface temperature grids and disseminating them via the NCEP server. These products are not available via NOAAPORT. A Public Information Statement was issued on March 4, 2013 requesting comments on the proposed termination of these products. http://www.weather.gov/os/notification/pns13cdc_removal.htm Based on responses received, NWS will terminate the CDC products no later than July 16, 2013. The removal date may occur earlier if the NWS transition to the new supercomputing system happens prior to July 16. A revised TIN will be issued to announce the revised termination date if necessary. The CDC products use an early global atmospheric version of the Climate Data Analysis System (CDAS) with a resolution of T62 and 28 model layers. This is followed by a 15 member (control with 7 pairs) ensemble forecast, run at the 00Z cycle only. Forecasts for precipitation and 995mb temperature out to 360 hours are posted on the NCEP server at: http://www.ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/data/nccf/com/cdc/prod/ or ftp://ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/data/nccf/com/cdc/prod/ These products have become obsolete and users should use the current operational output from the CDAS and Global Ensemble Forecast System (GEFS). More details about the products available from these systems is available at: http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/products/ If you have questions about this termination, please contact:John Derber
