Web feedback can be provided via an NWS customer survey link on the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Storm Prediction Center (SPC) webpage: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/survey/nws-survey.php?code=DTFWO These products are issued once a day at 2200 UTC for the CONUS only. Operationally the SPC already produces daily categorical forecasts of critical fire weather conditions from dry thunderstorms for Days 1, 2 and 3; however, federal land management agency Predictive Services Units, NWS Weather Forecast Office (WFO) meteorologists and other users in the fire weather community have expressed interest in using longer range outlooks of dry thunderstorm critical fire weather areas for Day 4 through Day 8. Forecasts of dry thunderstorm critical fire weather areas are based on areas where a combination of numerous cloud-to-ground lightning strikes, generally less than one-tenth inch of rain and dry fuels are forecast. The SPC Day 4-8 Dry Thunderstorm Fire Weather Outlooks will be available as National Digital Forecast Database (NDFD) grids, Redbook Graphics, and online at: http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/exper/fire_wx/ Additional information is available from the online Product Description Document: http://products.weather.gov/PDD/spc_day38DryT_pdd.pdf The text Day 3-8 Outlook will also include a discussion of the individual fire weather areas and conditions. The AWIPS IDs and WMO Headers for the Day 3-8 Fire Weather Outlook product suite remain unchanged. The WMO Headers for the experimental CONUS Day 4-8 Dry Thunderstorm NDFD grids from the SPC are; Day 4 LDIY41 KWNS Day 5 LDIY51 KWNS Day 6 LDIY61 KWNS Day 7 LDIY71 KWNS Day 8 LDIY81 KWNS After the experimental period, a decision will be made to either continue testing with no changes, revise the test, or make the experimental product operational.
