Acting Director, NWS Office of Climate, Water and Weather ServicesSUBJECT: Seeking Stakeholder Input for March 2014 Revision
of Service Description Document on Proposed Enhanced Impact-Based Decision Support Services for the Emergency Management CommunityNWS solicited comments, between May 24 and September 23,
2013, on a Service Description Document (SDD) describing proposed enhanced impact-based decision support services (IDSS) for the emergency management community, supporting events or incidents impacting safety of life and property. For more information on this SDD see: www.nws.noaa.gov/os/notification/pns13idss_em_amended.txt NWS appreciates the comments provided on this SDD, although comments were received from only a small group of stakeholders. Review of the comments indicates that there are significant concerns about the NWS description of our proposed services. To address both concerns received to date, as well as the lack of input from the full range of key stakeholders, NWS plans to engage in informal dialogue with stakeholder groups over the next several months, with the intent to rewrite the SDD. One key forum for interaction will be during the NWS Partners Meeting held in conjunction with the AMS Annual Meeting in February 2014. All those who submitted comments on the SDD will be made aware, via email, of these informal discussions when they are scheduled. If you did not previously submit comments, butt would like to provide input on the SDD or be included in the discussions, provide your comments or contact information to the following address: nws.idss.comments@xxxxxxxx Based on input received to date and any additional feedback provided by our stakeholders, either via emailed comments or input gathered through the informal dialogue, NWS will rewrite the SDD to clarify the intent of the proposed enhancements and address concerns expressed by our stakeholders. Our goal is to have a new version of the SDD to submit for public comment and review by approximately March 1, 2014. The SDD may be accessed at: http://weather.gov/sp/idss_sdd_emc.pdf If you have comments or questions regarding this Public Information Statement, please contact: Wendy Levine National Weather Service Silver Spring Maryland 20910 301-427-9062 wendy.levine@xxxxxxxxNational Public Information Statements are online at: http://www.weather.gov/os/notif.htm
