yesterday's ? about getting unit.
ParameterTable.getDiscipline( d ).getCategory( c ).getParameter( p
).getUnit();
where d is Discipline #, c is Category #, and p is Parameter #
these are the 2,3, and 4 numbers in the index file product line.
ie,
51 0 -1 11 100 100 255 0 1997-07-01T00:00:00Z 1 388778898 86 180122 3
false
d =0 ( meteorological products), c = -1 (grib1 doesn't have cat's so -1
), and p =11 (Temp)

http://www.wmo.ch/web/www/WMOCodes/Operational/GRIB2/FM92-GRIB2-2005feb.pdf
for detail explainations. at this time this is best docs until i get the
javadocs finished for the decoder.
