[thredds] way to specify time units when using dateFormatMark?

Hi All,
Is there a way to specify what time units I want when using dateFormatMark to 
extract a new time axis on a joinNew NcML aggregation scan? It is giving me ISO 
8601 strings (e.g. "2000-01-01T00:00:00Z") but many of my software clients 
(LAS, DChart, ERDDAP) are expecting a number and a udunits format (as in number 
of "days since 2000-01-01T00:00:00Z").
