Re: [thredds] Ncml Aggregration

Hi all:

Correct, scan only works on local directories, but you can list remote datasets explicitly as below. TDS 4.3 will have some expanded capabilities for this using "feature collections".

These remote aggregations do seem sluggish, i assume its because of the extra hop, but havent tried to measure anything. Im hoping that TDS 4.3 will improve this, especially if you use cdmremote access (if the remote server is also a TDS).

I've experimented some with remote aggregation, and it is not possible, as far as I can tell, to use the scan element for remote datasets. You have to do something like:

<aggregation ...>
<netcdf location="http://remoteserver/thredds/dodsC/dataset/file1.nc"; />
<netcdf location="http://remoteserver/thredds/dodsC/dataset/file2.nc"; />
</aggregation>

I built these aggregations by parsing the remote THREDDS catalog.xml, and it works in concept. There are possible performance problems with this since it is not the normal usage. The unidata guys might have more insight into this.

Hi All,

Is it possible to use Ncml aggregation over external datasets?

In the documentation, the scan element only can load local datasets.

Can everyone show me the best way to address this problem?

Thanks,
