Hello all:
If you are using the Unidata TDS server (currently called "motherlode") please
read this.
The domain name "motherlode.ucar.edu" is being phased out, in favor of
"thredds.ucar.edu". The domain name "motherlode.ucar.edu" will not work after
August 1, 2013.
Use of TDS 4.2 on the Unidata TDS server is also being phased out, and will not
be available after June 1, 2013. Many of the variable names in all GRIB files
have been changed in TDS 4.3. This affects almost all the model data served at
Unidata. We will soon have an application to use to find out what the new
variable names are, given the old name, for NCEP model datasets (contact us if
you need it immediately).
The main changes between TDS 4.2 and 4.3 are listed here:

The timeline for transitioning is as follows:
* March 22 2013 (last friday), thredds.ucar.edu began resolving to a TDS 4.3
server (the latest stable version). motherlode.ucar.edu and
motherlode.ucar.edu:8080 continue to point to a TDS 4.2 server.
* Saturday, June 1st, 2013 - motherlode.ucar.edu and
motherlode.ucar.edu:8080, will be updated to use the TDS 4.3 server. This marks
the end of TDS 4.2 access on Unidata systems.
* Thursday, August 1st, 2013 - the data access URL motherlode.ucar.edu will
no longer function. All users of the Unidata TDS should transition to using
thredds.ucar.edu by this time.
Please start changing your software now to use thredds.ucar.edu and TDS 4.3.
