Greetings!
Apologies for the confusion - it can be a bit much to keep straight and it
hasn't always been clear. THREDDS is an umbrella project that encompasses
netCDF-java, the THREDDS Data Server (TDS), Rosetta, and Siphon (all
related to providing ways to create, share, find, and consume local and
remote data). Speaking specifically for netCDF-Java and the TDS, both
projects used to share the same codebase (github.com/unidata/thredds) and
release schedule for versions 4.6 and earlier. As of version 5, the
codebase has been split (github.com/unidata/netcdf-java,
github.com/unidata/tds), and they now have independent release schedules.
NetCDF-Java is currently on 5.3.1 (soon to be 5.3.2), while the TDS is on
5.0-beta7. Once 5.3.2 is released, I will be making a new beta of the TDS
which uses it. My hope is to have a stable TDS by the end of the spring.
On a related note, Unidata is hiring a developer to work on the THREDDS
projects, which I have hopes will help progress significantly:

If you or anyone reading this message knows of anyone who might be
interested, it'd be greatly appreciated if you'd share the posting :-)
Cheers,
Sean
