Vis5D is primarily a user interface specialized to visualize
the output of numrical weather models and other environmental
simulations. VisAD is a programming interface for supporting
general development of interactive visualization and analysis
programs, including collaboration via distributed objects.
If your data fits Vis5D and you just want to visualize it, then
it is much easier than developing your own application using
VisAD. On the othr hand, if your data does not fit Vis5D or if
you want to steer computations or support distributed computations
then VisAD is much better.
Cheers,
Bill
