Actually, Tom Rink is the best person to answer this, but
I'll take a shot and let him correct me if I'm wrong.
An HDF-EOS file with multiple data objects is opened as a
tuple of those data objects. This may be a tuple with lots
of components. This is pretty much the same as when you
open a netCDF file with lots of data objects.
The one thing I am not sure of with HDF-EOS, is what happens
if there are lots of data objects that are images or grids in
a time sequence. Since (I think) HDF-EOS does not document
this higher-level structure, it would be hard for VisAD to
deduce it. So my guess is they come in as a big tuple.
