try java -Dj3d.fullscreen=REQUIRED myApp, it may only work for the D3D version.

The Java3D FAQ, Javadocs, specification, and mailing list
archive are amazingly silent on this question (well, the
question was asked often on the Java3D mailing list but I
can't find an answer). Perhaps someone else knows something.
