Sorry everyone, I was mixing up the VisAD collaboration code and VisADForm. VisADForm (one version of which I wrote) saves a Data object to a file, not a Display object. The collaboration code (which I also wrote) does all the magic necessary to make a local Display look as similar as possible to a remote Display. Somehow, my brain cross-wired the two concepts and came up with "VisADForm saves everything associated with a Display object." Sorry for the confusion!
