We ran into the same problem. This is a bug in Java 3D and
Bill reported it to Sun. It appears to be fixed in Java 3D 1.3 beta2
(on Windows at least). You might try upgrading to this release.
I have found another minor bug with this version of Java 3D that
I will report to the list in more detail when I get a chance. Briefly,
when you use mouse button 2 to move the cursor, the upper portion of the
left side of the VisAD box (in 3D) redraws itself so it goes
from the upper left corner to the center of the display if the
upper portion of the box is close to the front clipping plane.
This can be demonstrated using Test00.
