RE: your mail

Hi Curtis, Tom, and group,

I tried replacing the "\" with "\\". Now, however, a plain white 2-D square
is imported instead of the cube with the fancy representation. Also, I
originally had the file specified as
D:\\visad\\unzipped\\visad\\ss\\small.v5d and when that didn't work, I
changed it to D:\\visad\\data\\small.v5d. But when I opened up a new
instance of the spread sheet and clicked on "GO", the file that was listed
in the "ADD/DELETE" menu was A1d1:
file:/D:/visad/unzipped/visad/ss/small.v5d instead of data/small/v5d. So I'm
thinking it is indeed running an old version of my code. I added a
system.out.println statement in my method and nothing was printed in my
shell. Do you know what I can change to get it to see the newest version of
my code?

Thanks,
Michelle

Hi Michelle,

Your version of the SpreadSheet is certainly what is being
executed now, so your CLASSPATH is not the problem this time.

The error messages you're getting are consistent with sending
"Data/small.v5d" as the source argument to addDataSource(),
with no such file existing. That is, the SpreadSheet tries
to find any file with such a path, and if unsuccessful,
assumes it must be a formula instead.

If it keeps printing those exact same errors, even after you
changed to "D:\visad\unzipped\visad\ss\small.v5d" and
recompiled, then you are not executing the latest version of
your code.

First, make absolutely sure you are running the latest,
compiled version of your code. One way to test this is to
put a temporary System.out.println() statement in your
method, which prints a string to the screen to verify that
the latest version is getting executed.

Second, you could try calling:
   addDataSource(source, BasicSSCell.URL_SOURCE)
which forces the SpreadSheet to interpret the given source
string as a file or URL, instead of as a formula. This will
eliminate the formula errors you have been receiving, but if
your path is incorrect, you will still receive an error.
