The Applied Meteorology program supports an Applied Meteorology bachelor’s degree and minor. The program also provides teaching support services for: Aeronautical Science (Professional Pilot), Aeronautics, Unmanned Aircraft Systems Science, and Air Traffic Management.
The position includes a mix of teaching, research, and service obligations. Teaching obligations will include teaching 12 undergraduate credit hours (4 courses) per semester with possible graduate teaching obligations. Teaching will include a mix of introductory courses (such as Survey of Meteorology and Aviation Weather), and higher level courses (which could include courses such as Atmospheric Physics, Forecasting and Numerical Modeling Techniques, Meteorological Instrumentation, Computer Applications for Meteorology, or other specialized courses). The candidate must possess effective oral and written communications skills, knowledge of meteorology and forecasting, including the ability to relate current weather to theoretical meteorological concepts, and knowledge of meteorological processing and display software. The candidate must be able to develop new course materials as well as teaching previously developed courses. Service duties include: student advisement, curriculum evaluation, and committee participation. The candidate is expected to pursue scholarly activities and funded research and to participate in individual and group research projects involving students. This is a nine-month position, renewed annually, with the possibility of summer teaching and/or research assignments.
A PhD in Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, Climatology, or related field is required along with a proven record of teaching and professional meteorological experiences. A doctorate in education (Ed.D.) or a meteorology doctoral candidate with extensive meteorological experience will be considered. The position is available beginning August 2012.
