AWIPS 18.2.1-1 is a major update to both EDEX and CAVE (on Windows, MacOS, and Centos7/RHEL7). More information is listed below.
- The linux
awips_install.sh
script has been updated to remove old versions of CAVE and EDEX before installing new versions and backup some /awips2 configuration files. - While old versions of CAVE will connect to the new EDEX, the menus will be outdated and we strongly suggest you update CAVE.
EDEX Updates
- Moved all Satellite, MRMS, and Model menus to EDEX side
- With the continuing updates to these products, this makes it easier for the menus to be updated on the EDEX side, rather than having every user update their CAVE version

- Menu items only for products that exist (no blank menu items)
- New GOES East/West Combo products

- New HRRR Smoke products available in CAVE

Thanks much - this is SO much nicer!
The IR/VIS sandwich GOES imagery looks like it's working but then leaves me blank. Is it me?

Hi Rob,
What operating system are you running CAVE on? The sandwich product is an RGB product that has limitations on Mac and Virtual Machines (ex. won't render) at this time.

Win10 and Centos 7. They both seem to show satellite fine until I try sandwich and get a red error message saying "The resource has been disabled"

This is an amazing new update! I LOVE the satellite features. This will come to great use for the hurricane season since there are many new satellite imagery options. I also like that now there is Impact-based warngen items already coded and I don't have to go through the files. The watches also work properly. The only issue is that the MRMS features are currently not updating.

Hi Wyatt,
Glad you are liking our updates! There was a small issue with MRMS data, but it's been fixed now and you should see data!

The MSI for Win10 won't open on my machine. Any idea what's causing this? The rest of the stuff is working fine.

@Sean Lockhart
In order to open it you have to make sure that the browser does not stop it from downloading. Chrome or chromium based browsers (such as edge) are CTRL+J for the downloads page. Go there and see if it stopped downloading due to a security threat. If that is the case, click "Keep file". Once that launches then Win10 will have an additional security feature blocking the file due to it being an unknown source. Click advanced on the pop-up and click "Run anyways".
I hope this helps.

Enjoying the new update. The satellite data seems to be behind about an hour or two. Do I need to uninstall CAVE and reinstall it?
Posted by Brett Ramirez on October 12, 2021 at 10:20 AM MDT #
Hello Brett,
It is an issue on our end, not you. With the increase in GOES satellite data, our system is having troubles keeping up. We are in the process of installing a new EDEX server that will focus on processing Satellite data and we hope that reduces any latencies. Sorry about the current delays

Yeah, I have been having the same issues.
