The Unidata Program Center wishes a fond farewell to budget analyst and multitalented team player Tina Campbell, who is embarking on a new career with an environmental research and consulting firm.
Tina joined the Unidata Program Center nearly six years ago, and quickly made herself an essential part of the team. As Ben Domenico recalls, "When Tina came to Unidata, I was anxiously awaiting her arrival because we were hosting the Open Geospatial Consortium Committee meetings for the first time and it all fell right into her lap. She handled it all with grace and Unidata ended up being a favorite venue of OGC."
In addition to her duties flying Unidata spreadsheets, Tina has been instrumental in organizing and running Unidata's many workshops, from the yearly software training classes to triennial Users workshops and everything in between. Workshop participants over the years have benefitted from both her deft handling of their requests and her always-sunny demeanor. Tina has also had a big role in creating the look and feel of Unidata's presence at scientific conferences like the American Meteorological Society's annual meetings.
"Tina thought it would be interesting to assist at Unidata's AMS booth," says Linda Miller. "Little did we know she would take over the coordination of Unidata's table during the student session, along with playing a major role at our AMS exhibit. She was a natural!"
Terry Mitchell remembers traveling to an AMS meeting in New Orleans with Tina. "On our downtime from the convention, Tina and I did a bus tour of the area devastated by Hurricane Katrina," he says. "It was incredibly moving to see in person what the folks down there had to go through. We discussed how we were fortunate enough to live in Colorado where we only have to deal with blizzards and not hurricanes like New Orleans and her native Florida."
While there is no surviving photographic evidence to support claims that Tina vanquished numerous UPC software developers in office nerf-dart skirmishes, her bravery during foam-weapon battles remains unquestioned.
We wish Tina the best in her new adventure.
I will miss your support and your happy smile when visiting Unidata. I wish you the best for your career and future.
