AWIPS Tips: AWIPS Updates at Unidata
The NSF Unidata AWIPS developers on Decommissioning Unidata Version 20 (CentOS7) EDEX, Upcoming Maintenance on Unidata Version 23 EDEX, and participation at AMS 2025.
netCDF-Java version 5.7.0 released
The NSF Unidata THREDDS development team released netCDF-Java 5.7.0 on January 6th, 2025. This release contains a number of security upgrades to third party libraries, a variety of bug fixes, and several new features and improvements.
NetCDF operators (NCO) version 5.3.1
Version 5.3.1 of the netCDF Operators (NCO) has been released. NCO is an Open Source package that consists of a dozen standalone, command-line programs that take netCDF files as input, then operate (e.g., derive new data, average, print, hyperslab, manipulate metadata) and output the results to screen or files in text, binary, or netCDF formats.
TDS version 5.6 released
The NSF Unidata THREDDS development team announced the THREDDS Data Server (TDS) version 5.6 on January 22nd, 2024. This release contains a number of security upgrades to third party libraries, a variety of bug fixes, and several new features and improvements. It is recommended that all TDS users upgrade to this version.

Applications for the RVCC Summer Internship program are now being accepted. Priority will be given to those who apply before February 16, 2025.
2025 DeSouza Award Nominations
The NSF Unidata Users Committee invites you to submit nominations for the Russell L. DeSouza Award for Outstanding Community Service. This Community Service Award honors individuals whose energy, expertise, and active involvement enable the NSF Unidata Program to better serve the Earth Systems Sciences community. Honorees personify NSF Unidata's ideal of a community that shares ideas, data, and software through computing and networking technologies.

NSF Unidata Program Center developers write regularly on technical topics on the Unidata Developer's Blog. The ongoing MetPy Mondays series discusses extracting time series data from GRIB files and visualizing hurricane data with Python.

NSF Unidata's Users Committee met in a joint session with the Strategic Advisory Committee September 25-28, 2024. The Users Committee will meet next in the April of 2025.
