Megan Lerman joined Unidata on August 29, 2022 as a software engineer. She graduated from San Diego State University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Statistics, along with a minor in Computer Science. After graduating, Megan worked as a software engineer for the US Navy for four years before coming to UCAR.
Working at Unidata is not Megan's first brush with UCAR. In 2016, she took was selected for a competitive summer research program at NCAR, funded by the National Science Foundation. The research fellowship program she participated in provided preservice teachers with relevant research experience to bring to their classrooms. During that summer she mentored a high school student and conducted research on an algorithm developed to detect precipitation using the GEONOR Precipitation Gauge.
At Unidata, Megan has joined the THREDDS Data Server team, working to maintain the current version (TDS 5.x) and helping design future versions of the system that emphasize scalability and maintainability. “I'm excited to learn more about atmospheric science, build my software development skills, and get to know my new team,” she says.
Megan lives in southern California, and spends her time away from the keyboard hiking, camping, backpacking, mountain biking, crafting, reading, and playing with and training her dog. In the summer of 2022, she hiked the 220-mile John Muir Trail solo.
Please help us welcome Megan to the Unidata Program Center Team!
