Thomas Martin joined Unidata on July 11, 2022 as an AI/ML software engineer. He is currently finishing up a PhD in Geology at Colorado School of Mines, and has previously completed a BS in geology from University of California, San Diego and a MS in geophysics from Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Before his PhD, he worked as a geophysicist working on geothermal, groundwater, and energy projects.
Thomas' PhD work explored using the Python programming language and data science techniques to improve and scale sedimentary geology interpretations and evaluations. He has also spent time as an intern at energy and mining companies, applying machine learning techniques to subsurface problems. He is looking forward to working in an open-source environment, and creating tools and workflows for the next generation of applied machine learning enthusiasts in the physical sciences!
Thomas lives in Golden, CO — less than an hour from UCAR's campus in Boulder. Before moving to Colorado to start his PhD, he lived in Hawai’i, Texas, and California. In his spare time, Thomas likes to ride various bikes, hang out with his pets, and spend time with his wife trying to find the best Mexican restaurants in Colorado.
Please help us welcome Thomas to the Unidata Program Center Team!
