Summer 2021 Unidata Interns Wrap Up Their Projects
The Unidata Program Center's three summer student interns — Lydia Bunting from Texas Tech University, Connor Cozad from the College of Charleston in South Carolina, and Isabelle Pfander from Willamette University in Oregon — have come to the end of their summer appointments. After a summer of dedicated work they presented the results of their projects to the UPC staff on July 28, 2021.
LDM 6.13.14 Released
Version 6.13.14 of the Local Data Manager (LDM) has been released.
MetPy 1.1.0 Released
Version 1.1.0 of MetPy, a collection of tools in Python for reading, visualizing, and performing calculations with weather data, has been released.
AWIPS TIPS: Explore the CAVE Volume Browser
This edition of AWIPS Tips focuses on CAVE’S Volume Browser. The Volume Browser is a tool for accessing model output and point sources like RAOB, METAR, and Profiler datasets.
Offer: Unidata Science Gateway JupyterHub Resources Available for Fall 2021 Courses
For the fall 2021 term, Unidata is once again offering to provide universities (or individual instructors) access to cloud-based JupyterHub servers tailored to the needs of university atmospheric science courses and workshops.
AWIPS Tips: Get to Know EDEX
This edition of AWIPS Tips provides a brief overview of the backend component of AWIPS: EDEX. EDEX is the Environmental Data Exchange system that comprises the server side of AWIPS; it handles functions such as requesting raw data, decoding and ingesting data, storing processed data, and dealing with data requests from CAVE and python-awips connections.
netCDF-Java library version 5.4.2 Released
Version 5.4.2 of the netCDF-Java/Common Data Model (CDM) library has been released.
UPDATED: Abstract Deadlines for AMS Annual Meeting
The abstract submission deadline for the 2022 AMS meeting has been extended until September 8, 2021.
Unidata Welcomes New Committee Members
The Unidata Program Center is pleased to welcome new members to the program's governing committees.
On the Developer's Blog
Unidata Program Center developers write regularly on technical topics on the Unidata Developer's Blog. In August, we started the month by having Unidata's three 2021 development interns describe their summer projects. The ongoing MetPy Mondays series tackles working with METAR data and also uses new geometry plotting features to make a plot from NHC forecast data for hurricane Ida.
Governing Committee News
Unidata's Users Committee spring 2021 session consisted of two virtual meetings February and one in May. The committee will hold a series of virtual meetings in September, October, and November, together comprising the Fall 2021 meeting.
