Community Supported GEMPAK: an Update
In March of 2021, the Unidata Program Center made the community aware that it no longer had software development resources available to support the continued use and evolution of GEMPAK. This post describes the current situation and includes information about the most current community supported release.
netCDF-Java version 5.5.2 released
The Unidata THREDDS development team released netCDF-Java 5.5.2 on January 5th, 2022; this release addresses an issue discovered in version 5.5.1 for users running JDK 8.
Minor Release: python-awips 18.1.8
A new minor release (version 18.1.8) of the python-awips package is available. This release includes a change to support a new warning, Snow Squall Warnings (SQ.W).
Update: AMS 2022 Meeting to be Virtual
The American Meteorological Society has announced that the 102st annual meeting, held 22-27 January 2022, would be held virtually rather than in the hybrid format previously envisioned.
Minor Release - AWIPS EDEX 18.2.1-4 on Linux
A new minor release (version 18.2.1-4) of AWIPS EDEX is available for Linux servers. No changes have been made to CAVE since the 18.2.1-3 release, however the version for Linux has been updated to 18.2.1-4.

NetCDF Fortran 4.5.4
Version 4.5.4 of the netCDF-Fortran library is now available. This version requires the netCDF-C library version 4.7.4 or greater; it includes many bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements.
Unidata at the Virtual AMS 2022 Meeting
The American Meteorological Society held its 102st annual meeting virtually, 22-27 January 2022. Read on for details about participation by Unidata staff, including events for those participating in the AMS Student Conference.
MetPy 1.2.0 Released
Version 1.2.0 of MetPy, a collection of tools in Python for reading, visualizing, and performing calculations with weather data, has been released. The project aims to mesh well with the rest of the scientific Python ecosystem, including the Numpy, Scipy, and Matplotlib projects, adding functionality specific to meteorology. This release includes a variety of new features and enhancements, as well a variety of fixes for issues encountered by users.
NetCDF operators (NCO) version 5.0.5
Version 5.0.5 of the netCDF Operators (NCO) has been released. NCO is an Open Source package that consists of a dozen standalone, command-line programs that take netCDF files as input, then operate (e.g., derive new data, average, print, hyperslab, manipulate metadata) and output the results to screen or files in text, binary, or netCDF formats.
