GEMPAK7 Release
GEMPAK7 is now available from Unidata. 32- and 64-bit Linux
binary RPM packages are available, as are binary tarballs
for x86 Solaris and OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
NetCDF-Java library and TDS version 4.3.21
The NetCDF-Java/Common Data Model (CDM) library and THREDDS Data Server (TDS) version 4.3.21 were released on March 12, 2014. The development team recommends this upgrade for anyone using the CDM or TDS.
Esri Climate Resilience App Challenge 2014
Environmental Research Systems Institute, Inc. (Esri) is sponsoring an app-development contest with the theme of "using technology to create map tools that help communities see, understand, and prepare for climate risks." First prize in the contest is $10,000 or the equivalent in Esri software products.
Unidata Program Center Welcomes Josh Young
Josh Young joined the Unidata Program Center as the Community Services Manager on March 10, 2014. He comes to Unidata from the Consortium for Ocean Leadership in Washington, D.C. where he served as the Program Manager for the Interagency Ocean Observation Committee Support Office (IOOC SO). At the IOOC SO, he supported member agencies in coordinating federal ocean observing and engaging the broader science community.

Unidata Program Center developers write regularly on technical topics on the Unidata Developer's Blog. Recent articles touch on effective use of netCDF compression and chunking and the many splendors of the Local Data Manager.
