Unidata and Python at the 2016 SEA Conference

Unidata Python tutorial at SEA 2016.

The 2016 UCAR Software Engineering Assembly (SEA) Software Engineering Conference and Tutorials (https://sea.ucar.edu/conference/2016) just wrapped up at UCAR's Center Green facility in Boulder, Colorado. The week long conference took place April 4–8, 2016, and focused on “Data Science for scientific disciplines.” Unidata staff were on hand, and on the final day, held a python tutorial titled “Visualizing meteorological data with Python: Use cases with Siphon and MetPy.” Over 40 people participated in the tutorial.

MetPy version 0.3.0 has been released. Highlights of the 0.3 release include:

Unidata Python Mailing List

The Unidata Program Center has created a new mailing list for the users of Python in the Unidata community: python-users. The focus of the new list is questions and discussion around the Siphon and MetPy projects, although other topics relevant to the use of Python are welcome. For more information, please visit our mailing list page and look under "python-users".

Unidata Intern Wraps Up Summer Projects

Josh Clark

The Unidata Program Center's summer student intern Josh Clark has come to the end of his summer appointment. After a summer of widely varying projects, Josh gave an overview of his accomplishments to the UPC staff on July 31, 2015.

Josh graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in the spring of 2015 with a B.S. in Meteorology. After spending the summer at the Unidata Program Center, he is headed to the graduate program at San Jose State's Fire Weather Research Lab.

AMS Short Course on Open Source Radar Software

An AMS Short Course on Open Source Radar Software will be held on the 13th of September 2015 in Norman, Oklahoma preceding the 37th Conference on Radar Meteorology. Preliminary programs, registration, hotel, and general information on the conference are available on the AMS conference web site.
