ESIP: Community Fellowships

ESIP

The Federation of Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP) is an open networked community that brings together science, data and information technology practitioners around Earth science issues.

ESIP Community Fellows are graduate students interested in bridging the gap between informatics and Earth Science. This fellowship provides students a chance to work closely with professionals in an interdisciplinary, cross-sector group (ESIP collaboration area) on current Earth Science problems. Community fellows become engaged in ESIP collaboration areas as rapporteurs, documenting group activities on monthly telecons and at ESIP’s semi-annual meetings (Summer/Winter). Community Fellows will receive a stipend of $2000 plus travel expenses to two ESIP meetings.

Applications are due October 5, 2018. For the full details see the ESIP Student Opportunities page.

ESIP: Raskin Scholarship

The ESIP Federation's Raskin Scholarship is open to undergraduates, graduate students, and early career (5-years post degree) scientists in the Earth or computer sciences who have an interest in community evolution of Earth science data systems. Applications are accepted through April 2, 2018.

Some past student representatives

The Unidata Users Committee is seeking nominations for a Graduate Student representative to join the group of nine university faculty members currently serving on this committee. Nominees should be Graduate Students who use Unidata software, hold a strong interest in the Unidata program, and have an interest in learning how a community-based program like Unidata is governed. Nominations may be made by any community member, and self-nominations are acceptable. This position will be for a two-year term beginning with the fall 2017 Users Committee meeting.

In addition to bringing a valuable student perspective to Unidata committee discussions, Graduate Student representatives make numerous professional contacts at Unidata and in the university community at large, and gain insights stemming from participation in Unidata program governance.
