In our discussions with the person from Onenet, I asked whether or not they could do some compression using off the shelf communications equipment. For example, we have some ISDN routers that do compress the data before sending it via ISDN. This may give you a way of reducing the bandwidth without having to put a PC in the WFO. However, the problem is that you end would still be getting a lot of uncompressed data once it came off of the data lines. There are some advantages to the PCs in the WFO, but if that is not possible, you still may be able to use lower cost communications lines. -- Dr. Harry Edmon E-MAIL: harry@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (206) 543-0547 FAX: (206) 543-0308 Dept of Atmospheric Sciences University of Washington, Box 351640, Seattle, WA 98195-1640
