The deciding factor should be what you do with the data after it arrives. There
is no way a VM has the same IO capacity as physical hardware. It's not arguable
at the physics level :)
My goal is maximum IO and minimal latency. That's the achilles heal of VM, so
we use all physical systems. I could melt a DL380 with the IO we use...without
the VM overhead :)
If your goals are different then your approach may be different. Neither is
right or wrong.
