I got this from Ed shortly before he left...
In 1.8.5 the HDF5 team made some memory mistakes. Many of my memory
tests that pass for 1.8.4-patch1 fail for 1.8.5. The HDF5 team are
addressing this issue.
But, in the meantime, (and bearing in mind that I am leaving on Tuesday
for a month) I am not messing with 1.8.5 but sticking with 1.8.4-patch1
while I try to reduce netcdf-4 memory use.
I do know that make check passes for hdf5-1.8.5 but I dont know what
effect the new bugs might have (if any) on parallel I/O. I suspect the
leaks are too small to matter much, but I really don't know.
